What do you get when you mix a 2 year old, almost 1 year old and 2 week old, amazing parents and beautiful home together in a lifestyle session? A suuuuuper long blog post full of fun, candid and snuggly images! Big brother Charlie was without a doubt the sweetest and most gentle big brother I've ever met, covering his new baby sister, Reese, in so many kisses! Middle girlie, Quinn, was a bundle of energy, movement and adorable smiles. This little girl was a super early walker and had the speed to prove it! She was so fun, but started to fade as nap time approached, and graced me with some sleepy cuddles and even let me put her down for her nap! And finally, the star of the show, baby girl Reese. She was just beautiful and slept so sweetly for us. She even gave me a smile as she napped in her mama's arms. These gorgeous children all belong to the wonderful Danielle and Stu, two super-parents who managed their 3 under 3 with a competence and grace that I can only aspire to! This family was such a joy to capture and I am honoured to have had the opportunity to capture their story.
Say hello to sweet Abigail! I first met her parents, Andrea and Joe, at their maternity session back in May, and was excited to find out whether they were having a boy or girl! I have great admiration for those crazy people who have enough patience to wait until baby is born to find these things out ;) It does add an extra fun element of anticipation though, I think! Abigail was sweet as can be and really pulled of some serious modelling throughout the course of our session. I had a wonderful morning with these three, and loved capturing this exciting piece of their family history for them!
Audrey's newborn session was full of some of the sweetest cuddles I've had the pleasure of capturing. This baby girl was a huge fan of snuggling against mom and dad's chest. And while she was not big on being put down, her parents did an wonderful job comforting their sweet daughter and eventually had her lulled off to sleep! I'm always impressed with how new parents to take these things in stride and how quickly they learn the little tricks that work well for their baby. I love capturing the new-ness of the family dynamic with a tiny newborn in the household. I've said it before and I'll say it again...I love my job!
Oh miss Harper. She was the easiest baby I have every photographed! I could move her as much as I wished between poses and she was happy as a clam and would settle right back to sleep. Unfortunately for her parents this was because she was exhausted from being up most of the night! Big brother Preston was incredibly sweet and introduced me to every character from the movie Cars. He also has an amazing pirate ship bed which I can only imagine is the envy of all of his friends! This session was so fun and laid back and I loved every moment. Denise and Albert, thank you so much for trusting me to capture your beautiful baby girl and the love and joy she has added to your family.
Miss Audrey's newborn session kicked off my craziest week of sessions to date, and what a great start it was! This little lady was 2 weeks old at the time, and was so calm & alert for the first half of our session that we were able to capture some beautiful portraits of her with her eyes open. When she did fall asleep she was happiest hanging out in mom and dad's arms. Her parents, Patricia & Kevin, were wonderful and I loved shooting in their condo with the beautiful high ceilings and giant windows you can see below. Patricia & Kevin, I had such a wonderful time capturing the love between your new little family and wish you many blessings as sweet Audrey grows!
You have to check out this little redheaded beauty! Her name is Emily is she was simply a dream to photograph. She slept so well, and then pulled out the cutest, over-the-shoulder pose you can ever imagine, all on her own! You may remember her parents, Wes and Margaret from their maternity session back in the early spring. I so looked forward to getting to hang out with them again and meet their sweet little girl. Margaret only almost cried once, when Emily stretched her little hand out and rested it on her daddy's face, and baby Emily barely cried at all the entire time ;) I just love getting to capture a family's first days after that sudden change that throws you headfirst into parenthood. It's lovely, it's messy, exhausting and thrilling all at the same time. Wishing this special family many blessings.
I met little miss Ada when she was only 24 hours old for her Fresh 48 session, and what a bright eyed little thing she was almost our entire session! She had the most lovely dark eyes and hair, and her parents Gonca and Yalcin were completely smitten with her already. Her daddy is a talented photographer himself, so Ada will certainly grow up to be as comfortable in front of the camera as her mom and dad! I had such a wonderful time capturing her teeny tiny details, especially those sweet feet and eyelashes. Also, is it just me, or is there something so wonderful about those blue and red hospital blankets? It's certainly not that they're soft (ha!), but I like to think that generations of babies have been wrapped in these same blankets in their first hours. I mean, that's probably not true since people apparently take them from the hospital regularly, and they get washed hundreds of times a year, but I'm just going to let myself think that ;)
I just loooooved photographing this new family. Jérémy & Cécile were incredibly natural and relaxed and gave me a beautiful peek into their little world and their first days with their newborn daughter Sophie. This girl got a record number of kisses and snuggles in our two hours together, and it is just so obvious how much she is loved. Her nursery is fully of beautiful, carefully handcrafted items made just for her, including the sleep sack and 'Sophie' sign on her nursery door that you'll see below, and the cozy grey blanket knitted for her by her grandma. She also had the sweetest little wisp of dark hair over her forehead that I just loved! Wishing Jérémy & Cécile many blessings as they raise their darling Sophie!
Little miss Georgia had her newborn session one day before her due date! She surprised her parents by showing up a month early, and one big advantage that gave us is that this little peach slept so well for us! The bright sunny day paired perfectly with her cheery white, pink and gold nursery that Georgia's mom, Kate, did a beautiful job designing. I think my favourite thing in the nursery was the amazing window ledge filled with books (which will be no surprise to anyone who knows me), although the cozy blue chair takes a close second. I had such a great time getting to know Kate and Andrew and enjoyed listening to them chat away to their baby girl! Wishing this sweet family many blessings in the days to come.
The day of sweet Cara's newborn session there was a massive downpour and heavy cloud cover, but walking into this new family's bright and beautiful home, I knew the dark weather wasn't going to be an issue! Allana and Andrew designed Cara the most gorgeous neutral nursery which we spent a lot of time in capturing snuggles with both her parents plus a few shots of big fur-brother Winston along the way. One of the highlights of the session, for me at least, was that Andrew ate like half the box of cookies that I brought during our session, so I'm feeling super confident in my baking skills as a result haha! Or maybe they were just short on groceries, but I'm choosing to take it as a compliment either way ;) Miss Cara was a sweet pea and was happiest snuggled up on her mama's chest in a swaddle. She snoozed away until we tried to take her swaddle of, which she was not a fan of at all! So, of course, baby runs the show and we swaddled that girl right back up and she was a doll for the rest of the session. Wishing this lovely family all the blessings as they enjoy life with their little lady!
You all know how much I love photographing newborns...but I think I equally love the older babies! I met up with Bennett and Jenn and their 5 month old baby girl Bailey on a chilly morning in March to capture some beautiful memories in their home. Bailey was full of sweet smiles (as well as some drool haha!) and has the most beautiful blue eyes! Seeing her chewing away on her chubby hands and Sophie the giraffe took brought back so many memories of Levi at this stage. Her parents just love their little lady to bits and it was an honour to capture this fun stage in Bailey's life for them!
Say hello to miss Bea! Her family's beautiful and charming old home was the perfect setting for Bea's newborn session. She was five weeks old, but as you can see that didn't stop her from sleeping through most of our time together! As you will note below, big brother Wally was a bundle of fun and energy, and although he kept insisting on "no pictures", he still somehow managed to give me a few of my favourite toddler shots to date! I think it's safe to say we were friends by the end :) Their parents certainly have their hands full, but in the most wonderful of ways! Congratulations on your sweet girl Caitlin and Blaine!
Oh hey! That's right, another adorable newborn to melt your heart today. Laura and Brian welcomed their sweet baby girl Lily into the world in January and I had the pleasure of meeting her when she was 6 weeks old for her newborn session. From the moment I came into their home it was just so obvious how head-over-heels Laura and Brian are for their little lady. There was a constant outpouring of love for her and it made my job of capturing the love between their family so effortless. I also love Laura and Brian for the fact that they let me sit and hang out and eat a banana because a was foolish enough to not have breakfast before their session! Shaky hands and cameras don't mix! Their kindness and hospitality towards me was so appreciated...Lily, you have some amazing parents to look up to :)
Meet miss Leah! Newborn baby daughter to my wonderful friends Cait and Ryan. As you can see, she has the best head of hair! I honestly could have photographed it all day, and I think she actually would have let me. She was so well behaved and our session went so smoothly thanks to her cooperation. It was so fun to see Cait and Ryan in their new roles as parents...Peter and I were the first of our friends to have a baby so it was nice to see someone else yawning too haha! I look forward to many walks and playdates (a.k.a. protecting Leah from Levi's hugs and kisses) with this little one and her mama :)
From the moment Nicole contacted me I knew I was going to love this family. So easygoing, flexible and fun, all ingredients for an enjoyable session! And the cherry on top? Peyton’s amazing hair and the fact that she was constantly yawning, which just might be the cutest thing a baby can do. She is clearly so loved by her big brother and parents. Nicole and Chase made two under two look effortless (don’t worry guys, I know its hard work!) and made me feel so welcome and comfortable in their home. I was honoured to capture these memories for them and hope that these photos will one day transport them back to that wild and beautiful time that they welcomed their baby girl.
In November Courtney and Ren welcomed their beautiful rainbow baby into the world! I had the pleasure of capturing their maternity photos and was counting down the days until I got to meet their newest family member! I trekked out to their cozy country home and got to capture some special memories of their first days together. Of course, when little Fay found out that I was coming she was far too excited to sleep! Luckily Courtney already knows this girl like the back of her hand, worked her mommy-magic and after some cuddles and rocking we had the sweetest sleeping baby on our hands. I’ll let her modelling skills speak for themselves. Courtney and Ren, I wish you many blessings as you embark on this journey of parenthood!
Being a mom is a blessing. We are gifted with these precious little lives that become so entwined with our own that it's hard to imagine life before them. It is also sometimes a bit monotonous, not very glamorous and at times frustrating (I'm assuming I'm not alone in this!). The thing I love about photography is that it is an exercise in observation and appreciation of what is right in front of you. As a mom it causes me to stop and think about the little things that I want to capture and looking back on the photos I have of the past year of Levi's life I am so thankful to have captured the little nuances of who he was at each stage.
I had the opportunity to capture Lindsey and her daughter Beth one morning in their home. It was so fun to document Beth and all the little things that make her who she is at this stage of her life. I look forward to watching this sweet girl grow!
I can't think of anything I enjoy photographing more than a brand new baby! So when little Olive joined this already adorable family I was beyond excited to document their first days as a family of four! Her big brother, River, was just the biggest bundle of energy and adorable-ness and her parents were so relaxed, natural and fun in front of the camera that they were an absolute breeze to photograph. This little lady already has a serious case of FOMO (fear of missing out, so those of you who don't keep up with tween slang); she did not want to miss a single thing the entire session, but her mom Alison managed to coax her to sleep at the very end so we could capture her peaceful little face and details. I could probably rant all day about how much I loved this session, but I will let the newborn and family sweetness below speak for itself! Enjoy :)
